World Champion


‘Old Man Wolstenholme’ finished his 2012 track season with another gold medal win. The retired firefighter was competing at the World Firefighter Games in Sydney and won the over 50’s 800 metres beating athletes from Hong Kong, Ireland and Australia.

Wolstenholme settled in to second place behind Kam Chung the Hong Kong athlete at the 100m break. Tracking Chung throughout the first lap Wolstenholme made a decisive move with 250 metres to go finishing comfortably in 2mins 28 secs leaving Chung to finish 13 seconds later. Liam Dunne from Ireland was awarded the bronze with Ozzy home boy Glen Richards finishing 4th.
